DISEASE PREVENTION CENTER

Common Misconception (No Deer/No Ticks)
This is False!
Birds, Rabbits, Squirrels, Chipmunks, Mice, Deer, etc...
are all carriers of Disease carrying Ticks.
If any of these animals frequent your property you are at risk.

Pets
  • Spraying alone will not keep ticks off your pets.
  • See your veterinarian for a tick control product called Front Line.
  • Ticks are attracted to the carbon dioxide that your pet's body lets off, and will travel from up to 100 feet away to feed on your dog or cat.
  • Pets will attract ticks and bring them into your home creating a very dangerous environment for you and your family.
  • If you have pets, having your property sprayed in conjunction with using Front Line is the only way to control ticks on your property.

  • Hiking
When outdoors stay in open spaces or on well maintained trails. Ticks tend to seek out bushes or long grass areas. These areas must be avoided.

    Protective Clothing
Clothe yourself protectively. Wear light colored clothing, this will help you see ticks better. Remember these ticks are very small, some no larger that the period at the end of a sentence. Tuck your pants into your socks or boots, and wear a long sleeve shirt.

    Keep Property Clean
Have your property sprayed monthly throughout the spring, summer and fall months by a tick control specialist. Since we believe the solution should not be worse than the problem, we recommend using East End Tick Control the Sensible Solution Inc. We use the most effective environmentally responsible Lyme Disease prevention program on the East End. We are tick control specialists.

    A)  Remove leaf litter from property each and every fall, even under your deck. Many small rodents nest under decks. With the combination of leaves and shady areas this makes for a major tick habitat. Ticks like damp, cool areas. Each year many people are bitten by infected ticks while sitting on their deck.

    B)  Keep wood piles off the ground and away from the house. Mice, chipmunks, etc. tend to nest in wood piles, old stumps, etc. Keep these to a minimum on your property and off the ground so small rodents can't rest there.

    C)  Stone walls should also be avoided because they tend to attract small rodents, which will definitely increase the amount of ticks around your home.

    D)  Lawns should be mowed regularly, NO EXCEPTIONS!

    E)  Bird feeders should not be close to the house. Birds carry ticks and will bring them to your property. Clean up the ground below the feeder. Rodents will be attracted to this area and bring ticks also.

    F)  If you have deer frequenting your yard, a fence at least 10 feet in height will keep them out cutting your tick problem down. Remember a fence won't keep smaller animals and birds out of your yard.

    G)  Nest boxes for owls, hawks or other birds of prey on your property will help reduce the amount of rodents on your property in turn reducing the tick population. (We have found hundreds of ticks on one mouse alone!) Contact East End Tick Control about putting up a nest box.
